Welcome to Parents from Shireen Appana – International Principal
It is both my privilege and honour to welcome our parents and students to NAS Nantong. It is a pleasure to have you as part of our learning community. As founding parents and students of NAS Nantong, you will help write the history of our school. I know it is the moment you have been waiting for. For many of our parents and students this is going to be a completely different experience for you. An exciting one I hope that brings you much happiness and fulfillment. You and your child are about to embark on a memorable year at NAS Nantong.
I appreciated the opportunity to meet many of our parents and students at our Orientation Day on August 29th. Our students had the opportunity to meet their classmates, homeroom teachers, subject teachers and tour the school. This certainly helped to take away the anxiety of coming to school on day one and not knowing what to expect. It was evident that the orientation really impacted our students as they moved about the school seamlessly and with confidence.
We start the year off with 208 students, 15 National teachers who have been recruited from across China and 14 International teachers who come from eight different countries and have 20 administrative staff. Our experienced faculty bring with them a wealth of skills and knowledge and are committed to giving each one of our students an amazing learning experience.
This handbook is designed to provide helpful information about the learning programs and procedures associated with our Primary and Secondary school. We seek to make our school a safe and friendly environment where students can achieve their academic potential, be passionate and reflective learners, become good Chinese citizens as well as global citizens and lead active, balanced, healthy lives.
Our goals for the year Include:
- Developing relationships with parents as we see you as partners in your child’s education. We want to work together and develop a sense of trust, knowing that we always have the best interest of your child at heart. WE request parents uphold the school’s expectations at home support and encourage their children to engage in inquiry.
· Communicating regularly with parents is key to building a sense of community and inclusion. Teachers will communicate with parents on whole class experiences as well individual student progress, social and emotional development and their wellbeing. The Principals will also hold regular meetings with parents to keep them well informed on a school wide level.
· Supporting and encouraging our students:
- To be ambitious and to engage in learning experiences both inside the classroom and beyond and to develop academically, socially and personally.
- To be responsible, caring and ethical Chinese citizens, who make a positive contribution to their community as well as on a global level.
- To be respectful of themselves, others and the environment.
- To be open-minded and accepting of others in keeping with the multilingual, multicultural nature of our school.
- To be risk takers, seize opportunities and embrace challenges.
I respectfully request that you read the Handbook with your child to discuss the content. This will ensure that we begin the year with shared understandings and expectations.
I believe that parents play a significant role in their child’s education and look forward to a positive home-school partnership. We know that strong partnerships between parents and school lead to positive learning results. We invite you and strongly encourage, your partnership and involvement in the school.
I look forward working closely with you to ensure that our students have a happy and successful year.

Thank you for choosing Nord Anglia School Nantong and becoming the founding parents of our school! From this moment, we all have a common goal and let’s work together to guarantee our students a promising future.
To create a better tomorrow for the students, our school and teachers expect to reach a consensus with all parents regarding the following four aspects:
- The relationship among students, school and parents
The relationship among teachers, parents, and students is like a triangle. The two corners below the triangle are parents and teachers, and the students are the apex. It is our common task to focus on students and continuously enhance the importance of children. The coordination between the parents and the school affects the development of the children, so we share our expectations for teachers, parents and students in the Student/Parent Handbook. Let us do our best to support and help the students, and make it into the motivation of children's learning, so that students can achieve the maximum development academically, personally and socially.
- Respect, trust and cooperate with the school and the teachers
Our common goal is to provide children with a safe and comfortable educational and teaching environment. Therefore, the school has established various rules and regulations. They have been demonstrated repeatedly and are clearly written in the Student/Parent Handbook. Please read them carefully.
We hope that parents will come to us when encounter problems in teaching and learning. I believe that parents have different development plans and expectations for their children, and has different opinions about education. When there is a deviation between the school education and your understanding, parents are always welcome to communicate with us via mail or telephone and we hope that we can reach a consensus. Meanwhile, we would like you to respect and trust the teachers and professionals.
We hope that parents can extend the school's educational philosophy to their family life and practice it at home. We develop students' self-management skills at school, and expect our parents to let the students arrange their time and manage their own items while ensuring their safety. We reinforce students' awareness of service at school and hope that parents can give the students opportunities to take care of their family members and let them learn to care for others; we develop the creativity of the children at school and hope that the parents can let them participate in family activities planning and problem solving. Let children deepen their understanding of the knowledge they learn by exploring in their familiar home environment.
- Be a lifelong learner and be ambitious
I believe that as parents, you have already known the educational philosophy for Nord Anglia - “Be ambitious,” which is our expectation for all members of the learner community. I believe that all parents have the same feeling that children give us the opportunity to experience growth again. This journey is not only about accompanying children to do homework and going through exams, but more importantly, how to help children form a correct world view, understand what they think, and support and encourage them to be curious, to explore during learning, and keep making progress.
The school will also organize parent workshops. Parents will learn basic knowledge of education and psychology, get to know more about international curricula and studying overseas, and discuss education issues with each other. We hope that parents will actively participate in these activities and share their thoughts with the parents that are successful in educating their children.
The school will also send important notices to the parents via email on a regular basis. Parents are requested to check their emails in time. The IT department will also help parents solve problems regarding the use of the school's software system.
- Work together to regulate parent-school cooperation
In addition to regular communication channels such as emails and advanced software systems, the school also plans to establish a parent-school cooperation committee to promote the standardization and regularization of the collaboration. The committee is a bridge between the parents and the school. We will discuss and regulate the basic communication channels, processes and methods.
With the premise to solve issues, we hope that parents can communicate with the school and other parents and when they encounter problems, firstly they should contact the relevant personnel and departments of the school according to the communication procedure. They should also respect and protect their own children and other children, and shouldn’t spread unconfirmed second-hand information in chat groups.
Nord Anglia School Nantong is an international school that integrates various high-quality educational resources. Let us work together to create a harmonious and positive learner community and provide the best education services to our students.
